What Does a Will Do?

A will allows most of your property to transfer pursuant to your wishes upon your death. A will does not control the disposition of non-probate property (including jointly-owned real estate or property that has a beneficiary designation like insurance policies, securities, certain financial accounts, etc.). A will also does not keep your other property from going through probate.
