During summer, nearly half of San Diego County students will lose access to nutritious meals that they rely on while in school. Thus, it is imperative we do not forget about the over 100,00 children in San Diego County that are food insecure. The U.S.D.A (United States Department of Agriculture) defines food insecure as “the limited or uncertain availability of nutritionally adequate and safe foods, or limited or uncertain ability to acquire acceptable foods in socially acceptable ways.” For the past several years, Johnson Fistel has participated in raising money for needy families through the Food from the Bar program during which San Diego’s legal professionals join in a friendly competition to reach out to their colleagues, friends, and family to raise needed funds for and to volunteer at Feeding San Diego. Feeding San Diego supports families, kids, seniors, military families, college students, and more demographics who face hunger. We are trying to raise awareness and more money than in prior years.
